The traditional birthstone for the month of February is amethyst. Ancient Greeks believed amethyst gems could prevent intoxication. The term comes from the Ancient Greek “A” meaning not and “methustos” meaning intoxicated. As such Ancients Greeks and Romans wore amethyst and made drinking vessels of it as a strong antidote against drunkenness. Ancient Egyptians used amethyst as a gemstone as well.

Amethyst can be found in primary hues from a light pinkish violet to a deep purple. It is said to be as hard as the ruby or sapphire from which it only differs in color. Women all over the world take extra care of their amethyst necklace or earrings. See the different delightful designs for this gem. Choose the one that will fit you best.
